The Altar Server Ministry at St. Mary's provides an opportunity for parish youth to be active participants in the weekly Mass. Servers aid the presider throughout the Mass by bearing cross and candles, preparing holy objects and vessels, presenting books, and helping the presider to glorify and sanctify the celebration. This opportunity allows youth to develop a deeper appreciation for the ceremony and ritual that is such an anchor to our Catholic faith.
All parishioners--both boys and girls-- after receiving their First Holy Communion are invited to participate in the Ministry. Training and visibility make altar servers role models for the entire congregation, so servers are well prepared in the parts of the Liturgy, the Order of the Mass, proper decorum, and care for the sacred articles and garments.
Altar servers usually are assigned to serve at the Mass their family regularly attends.

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed” with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.
Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.

We proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self and others.... (U.S. Catholic Bishops, Pastoral Plan for Pro-life Activities, 2021)
The Respect Life Ministry, under the guidance and support of our Pastor, works to promote and teach respect for the sanctity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. We promote the gift of Life to counter the anniversary of Roe v. Wade (January 22) through speakers at Mass, Baby Shower, Dollars from Heaven fundraiser, etc. We encourage year-round support for the La Habra Life Center and Clinic through donations of gently used baby items and monetary donations. Please call the Parish Office or the Center at (562) 691-9395 and at: https://lahabralifecenter.org
Since 2007, we have raised over $89,000 for Dollars from Heaven (known as Pennies from Heaven at the Diocese) thanks to the generosity of St. Mary's parishioners. This is a diocesan activity and funds are distributed to all centers and clinics in the diocese. This event takes place in October as an activity of Respect Life Month.
We support the La Habra Life Center and Clinic with donations of clothing and supplies from parishioners throughout the year and with a Baby Shower for the Center in the Spring. Along with baby gifts, parishioners have also donated over $31,000 to the Center/Clinic.

Investing in today's youth is necessary in growing the body of Christ. Teaching young people in the church to grow in their relationship with the Lord prepares them to serve Christ in all they do. As a result, this nurtures the congregation and allows the church to flourish.
